John E. Achorn Brewer – John E. Achorn, 81, husband of Frances E. Achorn, died peacefully on Jan. 7, 2015 after a long struggle with cancer. He was born Jan. 16, 1934 in Fort Fairfield, the son of Lewis and Nedra Achorn. John served his country for 41 years retiring from the Maine Air National Guard in 1994, the last years of which he served as the Senior Chief for the State of Maine reporting to the Adjutant General. He was a communicant and long standing church angel at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Surviving in addition to his wife, Frances of Brewer are his children, Stephen and his wife, Maryann of Tujunga, CA, Timothy and his wife, Kim of Bangor, John and his wife, Sharon of Chesapeake, VA; grandchildren, Kristin Fortin and her husband, Richard, Nathanial and his wife, Tonya, Jason Achorn and his wife, Jessica, Eric Achorn and his wife, Whitney, Jessica Achorn, Lauren Restaino and her husband, Stephen, Peter Achorn and his wife, Emily and Joshua Achorn; great grandchildren, Andrew, Ethan, Calvin, Emma, Thomas and Charlotte; his brothers, Arthur and his wife, June, Ray and Danny “Pete”; his sister, Sandra Stockus and her husband, Arthur; sisters-in-law, Joan and Doris; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister and three brothers, Mary Louise, Jay, Thomas and Richard. John was a man of great faith and a loving family and with dear friends. He will be dearly missed and always remembered. Family and friends may visit 4 – 7 PM Monday, Jan. 11, 2016 at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Joseph Catholic Church, 531 No. Main St., Brewer. Burial with full military honors will be held at Noon, Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016 at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Lafayette Cancer Center, Cancercare of Maine, c/o EMHS Foundation, PO Box 931, Bangor, ME 04402 or emhsfondation.org.
