Obituary of Anna H. MacLeod

Please share a memory of Anna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Anna Hodgkins MacLeod, 73, wife of Brian E. MacLeod passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on March 11, 2021 in Holden. She was born Dec. 15, 1947 in Bangor, the daughter of Alvin and Marguerite (Dole) Hodgkins.

Anna graduated from Brewer High School in 1967.  She worked many years as a CNA in long term care in the Bangor area and was a role model for adult learning by returning to college to obtain her Licensed Practical Nursing diploma.  She enjoyed caring for others and developed many lifelong relationships working in local nursing homes and within home private agencies. Anna loved to sew and many have been blessed by her blankets and quilts.  She passed her love for reading onto her children and grandchildren and was always ready to discuss a new author or novel she had begun.  Her book list for Dad to obtain from the library was always quite long and impressive.

Most importantly Anna lived and showed her faith in the Lord.  Her servants heart and faith sustained her through some physically challenging times. She taught her grandchildren how to be a secret blesser as in her words, “it is more fun that way”.  She shared many Bible verses and was known to have them written on index cards throughout the house and various books as bookmarks.  One of Anna’s last written words were, “all the pain and problems I am having will be worth it when I see Him face to face”.  While our hearts are saddened we are comforted with the assurance of her belief in the Lord.

Surviving in addition to her husband of 54 years of Holden are two children, David MacLeod and his wife Kelly of Etna; Lorraine Lugdon and her husband Kevin of Dedham; three grandchildren, Hannah Reuillard and her husband Nick; Joshua and Tiana Lugdon; one great granddaughter Willow Reuillard; nephews Kevin Marsh, Kendall Marsh and his wife Rhonda, Kurtis Marsh and his wife Carissa and their children Ryan and Morgan Marsh. She was predeceased by her sister Josephine Grindle and her parents.

Anna leaves many special friends and family members.  The family would like to thank Kindred Hospice and Visiting Angels for their care and compassion.

A service honoring Anna's life will be held 2 PM Friday, May 7, 2021 at Discovery Church, 270 Main Road North, Hampden with Pastor Mark Fowler, presiding. Those attending are asked to follow safety protocols. A time of fellowship and coffee will be immediately afterward and private burial will be at Hill Rest Cemetery, Holden at a later date. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or to the Bangor Humane Society.
