Obituary of Dorothy Mary Cushing

Dorothy M. (Finn) Cushing, 92, died peacefully Friday, May 14, 2021 at Westgate Center for Rehabilitation & Alzheimer’s Care, Bangor, Maine, where she was cared for by a dedicated staff.  Dot's sense of humor and laughter was a trait she shared with family and friends.  She always will be remembered for her knitting projects of mittens, afghans, dish cloths, and potholders which she shared with loved ones.  She was a self-taught seamstress who sewed many of her children's clothes including prom dresses.   Her contributions to her family‘s Christmas will be remembered with smiles and stories. Each daughter received a family box to be distributed to spouses, children and grandchildren.  Each box was unique, it may have contained a special handmade project, purchased gadgets, or maybe gifts she found at garage sales which just called out to her for a special person. Dot was a valued employee at Ohmart & Hinckley's Pharmacy in Brewer for many years.  After their retirement, she and her husband Jim created many happy memories at their camp on Hopkin’s Pond. She was a faithful communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Brewer. 

She was born to Michael and Mary Ellen (Maguire) Finn in Littleton NH, September 1, 1928. She was predeceased by her husband James W. Cushing and her daughter Connie Cushing Coulter.  She will be remembered lovingly by her two daughters, Patricia Elliott and her husband David, Kathryn Aucoin and her husband Philip, a son-in-law Malcolm Coulter, grandchildren Chris Aucoin and Nicole Murphy, Jaime and Robert Elliott, Terri Bemis and Jasmine Coulter, great grandchildren Corwin and Connor Aucoin, Cameron and Tucker Lewis, Sophia Murphy, Kyle Cummings, Rider and Callie Anne Elliott. She was looking forward to her first great great granddaughter to be born in June.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 AM Thursday, May 20, 2021 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Brewer. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer.  In lieu of flowers, please volunteer at your favorite charity or share a favorite memory of her at kileyandfoley.com.
