LEVANT--It is with heavy hearts and indescribable sadness we announce the passing of Darrell Elden Bowen born November 28, 1960, in Bangor, Maine. Darrell died at home with his wife and children by his side. He fought his illness with tremendous strength, courage and dignity. His character could not be diminished by his illness and could never take away his sense of humor, quick wit and love of laughter and we were all blessed with his smiles until the very end of his life.
Darrell was an incredibly gifted mechanic and worked as one all of his life for many area businesses such as Leadbetter International, Maine Mac, Bangor Volvo, Sunrise Materials, Bangor Truck and Trailer, Lane Construction and Northeast Paving. However, if he had ever decided on a career change, he would have made an excellent stand-up comedian. Snowmobiling, hunting, fishing and camping were his other passions but snowmobiling was his absolute favorite. Darrell was dedicated to his grandchildren and attended every game and event he was able to that they were in. Darrell was also a member of the Lynde Lodge #174 AF & AM in Hermon.
Darrell’s greatest treasure and number one priority in his life was his family. He was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Carolyn (Walls) Bowen, whom he missed every day, and brother-in-law Mark Brountas. He is survived by his wife Laurie Murphy Bowen; son, Craig Bowen, wife Monica and their son Carter; daughter Nicole Hollobaugh, husband Shawn and their children Chase and Rowan; brother Randy Bowen, wife Jennifer, children Roxanne and Claire; sister, Susan Brountas and children Michael and Katie; sister, Brenda Byers, husband Jeff, children Nicholas and Jillian; mother and father-in-law Dennis Sr. and Eleanor Murphy and grandchildren Zeke and Isiaha; sister-in-law Marlene Thomas and husband Rick and children Jonathan, Suzy, Katie, Ryan and Nicholas; brother-in-law Dennis Murphy Jr., wife Loreli and children Dennis III and Mathew; brother-in-law Russel Murphy, wife Jeanne and children Adam and Amanda; all of the spouses and children of those listed; many grandnieces and grandnephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a scholarship fund in Darrell’s name to Maine Future Farmers of America (FFA), 23 State House Station, Augusta, ME 04333.
