Alice Theresa Perry, later known as Alice Perry Ellsworth, died on August 19, 2025. She was born on March 28, 1929, the daughter of Walter Levi Perry and Annabelle Josephine (Bishop) Perry.
Annabelle and Walter had four children, two sons, Byron Joseph Perry and Walter Levi Perry II and two daughters, Marie Morill (Perry) Woodcock and Alice Theresa (Perry) Ellsworth. Alice went to St. John's Parochial Elementary School and graduated from John Bapst High School in Bangor, Maine. She then went on to earn a bachelor's of science degree from the University of Maine in Orono. While attending college, she met and married John Jay Ellsworth Jr. of Newton, Massachusetts, in 1956. John also graduated from Univ. of Maine. Her first job after graduation was as a junior high school teacher in Norton, Massachusetts. She also taught at Windsor Junior High School in Windsor, Connecticut, for one year. After moving to Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1966, she worked for Mecklenburg County as a home economist and nutritionist. Alice was a member of the Wiscasset Public Library and the senior citizens bridge club. She was the president of the women's Hillcrest Golf Club and the rules chairman of the same club. She also enjoyed researching her genealogy. In 1957, Alice and John had a son named John Jay Ellsworth III, who died in 2020 after becoming a paraplegic and contracting COVID-19.
Alice is survived by her three grandchildren, Tracy Clark, Ashley Ellsworth, and John Ellsworth IV; seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, 217 York St., Bangor. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor on Wednesday. Messages and memories may be shared with her family on the tribute wall of kileyandfoley.com.
