Bob grew up in Glenside PA graduating from Abington High in January 1943. When there was no vacancy for his third alternate appointment to the United States Military Academy, he enlisted and served in WWII 1943-46 in the Air Force as a Radar Officer 2nd Lt on a B29 crew. He served in the Air Force Reserve, 1946-51.Upon return from service, he resumed studies at Drexel Institute of Technology and earned his BS degree in Chemical Engineering in December 1948. Alma and Bob went to different schools, but attended the same St Paul’s Lutheran Church. Their mothers sang in the choir together. They were confirmed in the same class at 14. They didn't know the other existed until WWII had the girls in the church correspond with the boys in the service. Their love for each other was instant. They wed March 6, 1948. Bob's broad career in senior management positions earned him several vice presidencies in manufacturing companies. He was listed in Who's Who in America. These experiences were accompanied by presentations to professional and educational organizations on management goals, techniques and achievements. He was a Certified Quality Control Engineer and Certified by the American Society for Production Control (CPIM).
Alma and Bob purchased H&R Block franchises and jointly operated them successfully for six years before selling them when Alma retired. Bob joined Unisys Corp during that period as a senior manufacturing consultant. He retired at 63 in 1989.
Always interested in travel, Alma and Bob visited abroad extensively to 116 countries on six continents through cruises, time share exchanges and month long stays with Saga Holidays Ltd. Upon retiring, Bob volunteered to do the family cooking with Alma's blessing and he started creating the books he had always wanted to write. This included a cookbook. He wrote five books plus a cookbook and a WWII tribute to his closest wartime friends. In his later years, he devoted his time to his grandson’s child nonprofit, Stand With Me, while living at his lovely cottage on Pushaw Lake shore at Mitchell Point surrounded by family! Bob was overwhelmed with gratitude by the love and caring he received from all his extended family!
During his many years living in Maine, he attended Christ the Savior Orthodox Church in Brewer where his son is Rector and renewed his spiritual life. He was forever grateful to God in giving he and all his family so many wonderful blessings throughout his many years of life. God is so good.
