Joshua Robert Ashmore, 30, unexpectedly passed away at his home, January 25, 2026. Josh was born on December 9th, 1995 in Blue Hill, Maine to Nancy and Robert Ashmore. Josh graduated from Nokomis Regional High School in 2014 followed by a year at The University of Maine in Machias (2015). From there he entered the workforce working for Dysarts in Hermon, WA Bean in Bangor and Cianbro in Pittsfield. In August 2023 he earned a welding technologies certificate at Beal College.
Josh was predeceased by his grandfather, Robert (Bobby) Gray; and his grandmother Pamela Ashmore. He was survived by his parents, Nancy and Robert Ashmore of Palmyra; Sister and brother in-law, Jessica and William Wheeler of Bradford; his niece and nephew, Gracelynn and Gregory; paternal grandfather, John Ashmore of Cape Rosier; maternal grandmother, Paula Gray of Sedgwick; Special Family; Aarika, Gabe and Aidan Tait of Holden; Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and Friends. Joshua held a special place in his heart for all. Josh loved his family and was extremely proud of his roots. He was an extremely proud uncle and loved his niece and nephew fiercely.
Growing up, you would be sure to hear his mom yelling at the top of her lungs because he had gone off to explore, whereabouts unknown. Josh was an avid outdoorsman. His love for nature and the woods is something he will always be remembered by. At any given time, you could find he had been gone a week at a time, camping, hiking, fishing and exploring all of Maine's woods. His favorite quote was always “Not all those who wander are lost.” This described him to a tee. He was a kind, caring and generous man. He would help anyone in need and never ask for a single thing in return. To say he will be missed is an understatement.
A celebration of life will be held on a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Maine Guides Education Fund at www.maineguideseducationfund.org. It was his dream to have a career as a Maine Guide, doing what he loved. We cannot think of a better way to honor him.
