Kenneth Lewis Gilbert Obituary

Kenneth L. Gilbert

August 17, 1948 – March 12, 2026

Also known to many as BabyCakes or Kenny G

Kenneth L. Gilbert was born in Bangor, Maine, to Clarence and Ellen (Simpson) Gilbert. A proud graduate of Bangor High School, Class of 1966, Kenny went on to serve his country in the United States Army from 1968–1971, including a tour of duty in Vietnam.

In 1972, Kenny married the love of his life, Patty (Pomeroy) Gilbert, beginning a 54‑year journey filled with devotion, laughter, and countless memories. Together they raised two beautiful daughters, Shawna Jean and Terri‑Lynn, and embraced a life full of adventure—camping, snowmobiling, ice fishing, and cheering on their favorite NASCAR drivers.

Kenny worked as a truck driver for American Concrete until his retirement. He served as President of the Orrington VFW for five years and was a proud member of the Ralph J. Pollard Masonic Lodge. His greatest joy in service came through the Anah Shrine, where he was best known and deeply loved as BabyCakes the Clown, bringing smiles and comfort to children and families.

Kenny was a true social butterfly—someone who never met a stranger, who could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere, and leave them feeling lighter than before. His warmth, humor, and easy charm made him unforgettable.

Kenny was predeceased by his parents; his daughters, Shawna Jean and Terri‑Lynn, in 1987; and his brothers Edward (and wife Sandra), James, and David.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Patty; brother‑in‑law Gene (Betty) Pomeroy; sister‑in‑law Shari (Denis) Blais; sisters‑in‑law Audrey and Charlene; bonus children Stephen and Bobbie‑Jo Caron; granddaughters Stacia, Brittany, and Madalyn; six great‑grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews who adored him.

A special thank‑you is extended to our niece, Shelly, for the love, care, and support she gave to both Kenny and Patty during this time.

Kenny lived his life as a proud, loving, lifelong servant to his family, friends, God, and country. Whether behind the wheel, in his convertible, or clowning around as BabyCakes, he brought joy wherever he went.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  Donations in Kenny’s memory may be made to the Anah Shrine in Bangor, Maine, in support of Shriners Hospitals for Children.
