Marvin D. Graves Obituary
Marvin D. Graves, MSgt. (Ret.) USAF, 92, passed away April 2, 2026 at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Bangor. He was born in Carmel February 4, 1934, the son of Neil K. and Phyllis (Lawrence) Graves. Marvin graduated from Carmel High School then entered the Air Force, retiring after twenty years. While in the Air Force, he inspected radar stations throughout Europe, then later on, inspected military housing, and then finally worked at Colby College as a recruiting officer.
He married his high school sweetheart, Constance A. (Newcomb) Graves in 1957, and they had four children. He had a real estate license in Washington and Maine; had a security’s license and sold mutual funds in Massachusetts and Maine, and after his retirement from the Air Force at the age of 39, Marvin worked two years for the state of Maine as the head of the Small Communities Team. He and his wife Connie formed Mar Con Acres, Inc. where for ten years he built houses throughout central Maine. He was the Assistant Manager at Gerrity Building Center in Hampden for five years, and worked in real estate up until his retirement. In later years, Marvin worked for Crosby & Neal, Inc.
After he retired, he and Connie built their dream home back in their home town of Carmel, just down the road from where he was born, and both were very involved with the town of Carmel.
He was a member of the Carmel Alumni Association for over 45 years; the Carmel Historical Society since 1994, where he was Treasurer; he was the Code Enforcement Officer and on the Planning Board; was head of the Campaign Committee to raise funds for the Simpson Memorial Library, and to build the Veteran’s Memorial; was on the building committee to build the Carmel Snowmobile Club; worked many years on Carmel Days; was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Benevolent Lodge #87 for over 60 years; was a former Shriner of Anah Temple; and was a member of the American Legion.
Marvin enjoyed traveling, having been to Alaska a few times, camping and fishing, playing bingo, and especially enjoyed winning at cribbage. He was a smart man, having a world of experience. He was kind, generous, and cared very much for his extended family and friends, and had a very special place in his heart for the town of Carmel.
Marvin was predeceased by his wife, Connie, in 2016. He is survived by his four children, Neil Graves (Lucie) of Bangor, Scott Graves of Carmel, Daniel Graves of Seabrook, NH, and Laura Neal (Peter) of Bangor; grandchildren, Adam Woodard, Leland Graves (Rowena), and Katharine Forsley (Lindi); a great granddaughter, Kenna Graves; step-grandchildren, Greg Neal (Kim), and Kim Johnson (Jason), step-great grandchildren, Olivia and Jacob Johnson, Nathaniel, Isabelle, Benjamin and Samuel Neal; and a very special friend and loving companion, Diana Wellington.
