Charles C. Harmon Obituary

Charles C. Harmon, 98, beloved husband of the late Lois (Elliott) Harmon, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026. Charlie and Lois shared 71 wonderful years of marriage and raised their three children in Brewer, Maine.

Charlie was born on January 26, 1928, in Newport, Rhode Island, the son of Charles and Agnes (Ramsdall) Harmon. Following his graduation from Berwick Academy, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, stationed in Hawaii. He later attended the University of Maine in Orono, where he earned a degree in Business Administration.

Charlie dedicated 35 years of his professional life to the Savings and Loan Association of Bangor, where he served as President. Through his work, he helped hundreds of families achieve the dream of homeownership. Following the bank’s merger with Maine Savings, he retired in 1988.

Throughout his life, Charlie was deeply committed to his community. He served for many years as President of the Brewer Library Association, was a member of the Brewer Planning Board, and was an active member of the Bangor Kiwanis Club, where he also served as Treasurer. Charlie and Lois were devoted members of St. Teresa’s Perish in Brewer.

He was known for his sense of humor, charm, and warm personality. An avid sports enthusiast, Charlie coached Brewer Little League and Brewer PAL Basketball. He and Lois never missed a Brewer football game.

Family was always the center of Charlie’s life, and his love was unconditional. In their early years, Charlie and Lois spent summers camping and visiting Pine Point Beach, where Charlie loved to body surf. Snowmobiling was a favorite winter pastime he enjoyed with his kids. Together Charlie and Lois entertained many family and friends at their cottage on Lucerne Lake. No matter how busy life became, he was never too busy to attend school concerts, recitals, field hockey games, and family events.

After retirement, Charlie and Lois made their home in Vero Beach, where they embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. They traveled extensively together and enjoyed 21 cruises, creating treasured memories along the way. Charlie continued to pursue the hobbies he loved, including tennis, bridge, and trips to the casino. He also had a special love for magic. He delighted in seeing performers such as David Copperfield, Criss Angel, and Penn & Teller in Las Vegas many times, and he developed his own style of magic that he joyfully shared with his grandchildren. Known for his lively spirit, Charlie was a wonderful dancer and made the best blueberry pancakes. He also enjoyed appearing as an extra in the movie Graveyard Shift, and was especially proud that his car appeared in the film. The memories, laughter, and stories he created are too numerous to count, and they will be cherished by his family forever.

Above all, Charlie was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Affectionately known as “Bubba,” he was deeply loved by everyone who met him.

For the past six years, Charlie made his home at the Ellen Leach Memorial Home, where he enjoyed the caring staff, wonderful neighbors, and many activities. Charlie lived by a simple philosophy: keep on moving and embrace every opportunity.

Charlie is survived by his two daughters, Debbie Harmon Whitney and her husband, John, of Chester, Maine, and Linda Harmon Jacobson and her husband, Michael, of Falmouth, Maine; his son, Reginald C. Harmon and his wife, Katie, of Florida; two grandsons, Andrew C. Emerson and his wife, Samantha, of Colorado, and Robert Whitney and his wife, Tifany, of Maine;  five granddaughters, Laura Skidmore and her husband, Nick, of Maine, Taryn Griffin and her husband, John Ford, of Florida, Lauren Grimsley and her husband, Chris, of Florida, Nicole Jacobson of Maine and her fiancé Jerry Lerman, and Sara Tsaitsios and her husband, Steven, of Maine. He also leaves behind nine great-grandchildren.
