Thomas J. Beale, 80, passed away on July 26, 2026, after a long battle with dementia. He was peaceful at the end, with family and friends, whom he still remembered, visiting often. 

Thomas was born April 18, 1946, in Auburn, ME. He was the third son of John and Evelyn (Welch) Beale. He and his wife, Jean, often remarked that they were both third children, one of many things they had in common. Thomas married the love of his life, Jean, in the mid-80s. They shared three children, David, Moira, and Jonathan. Thomas loved his family dearly and would especially dote on Jonathan, who brought him great joy even in deep sickness. He especially loved going on adventures with his family, whether it be to a nearby lake or across the ocean to Germany.

A proud Holy Cross graduate, Thomas spent most of his career as a social worker, working in Worcester, MA and Bangor, ME at various facilities. He spent part of his retirement as a substitute school teacher, always taking great joy in teaching others. This love of spreading knowledge took root during his treasured time in the Peace Corps, teaching children in Togo, Africa, for several years in his 20s.

Thomas was deeply rooted in his Catholic faith and the surrounding community. He was always looking for ways to be of service, taking special joy in the Marriage Encounter group that he participated in with Jean. There they met many lifelong friends and ushered young couples into the sacrament of marriage.

Thomas was predeceased by his wife, Jean; parents, Evelyn and John; brother, James Beale. He is survived by his children, David Beale and wife, Heather, Moira Beale and husband, Alexander Bayerdorffer, and son Jonathan Beale. He is also survived by his grandson (David's son), Alex Beale and wife, Lauren, and great-grandsons, Maddox and Ezra. Thomas is survived also by his brothers, Stephen and Michael Beale.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11AM, Friday, July 31, 2026, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St Mary's Catholic Church, 768 Ohio St., Bangor. The funeral mass can be livestreamed by clicking here.  All are invited to a reception in the church hall following the service.
