As someone who grew up with Chris (we both lived on the same street during childhood), this is shocking news. And I have a special message for his two sons:
Nick and Joe - As i just mentioned above, your father and I grew up on the same block in Paramus NJ. Thus, we were very close throughout the years. We did numerous activities together (sometimes including other family members and friends/school mates). For example, playing wiffle ball in the street, shopping in the malls or hanging out in each other's house. I can't list everything we did - that fill up an entire book.
After high school, our career aspirations literally took us in different directions. Your dad, of course, settled in New England. And I relocated the opposite direction to Atlanta. So as you could see, the logistics made it quite difficult to get together as we did as children growing up in Northern New Jersey.
Nevertheless, we did speak on the phone periodically. And your names came up constantly. He was very proud of the achievements both of you attained (and are still attaining). And although this is a very sad time for all of us, keep up the good work. Your dad would not want it any other way.

My Husband and I were clients of his, he had helped us buy our first property. I wish I had words to covney the sadness I feel right now. We found out only today that he had passed away on friday. I remember our first meeting with him we immedietly felt so welcomed by him. It never felt like you were walking into a business...he made it feel like you were at home and you could relax, he was always so gentle and kind when he spoke and I remember his gentle eyes and his smile brought warmth into the room. He made you feel assured that he would take good care of you. We don't know him like his family and other close friends did, but I remeber him from the interactions my family had with him. He absolutely was very professional and passionate about his work and helping people like our family. He made a difference in the lives of many people, including ours. I remeber meeting him at his office and he met our daughter and how he never minded if she ran around or did things kids do, and loved to interact. He loved seeing families and he would often comment how beautiful our family was, family meant a LOT to him. The way he spoke of his own, showed us that, he loved to share memories about his life and his own children. He gave us advice regarding life, marriage, and family. He made you feel like you weren't just a client, but a long-time friend for life and wanted to look out for you. Through the years he got to meet the other children we had and each new addition would bring a smile to his face and a feeling of happiness to see a family grow and stay together. I will charish the memories my family have of being given the blessing and opportunity to have met such and wonderful, helpful, and kind person. God bless him and keep him in Jesus name. Our family will have his family and close friends in our prayers, know he loved you deeply more than words could ever express.

Dear Uncle Chris
I found out today that you had moved on,
I didn’t really know how to process it, so I started replaying our most recent phone call. Stacy and I had just found out we were going to have a baby, and that was one of the most exciting moments of our lives. Before we shared the news with the world on Facebook, there were only two people I absolutely had to tell. Auntie was number one, and Uncle Chris, you were number two. That was non-negotiable.
You and Auntie played such a significant role in the final steps of me growing up. Last year, I was finally able to bring my family to Maine to meet all of you. Stacy immediately fell in love with everyone, and the impact you made on her in such a short visit goes without saying. Your smile, your stories, and even the little historical facts you shared about old buildings are things she still talks about today.
As I tried to process what to think, what to say, and how to feel about your sudden passing, I sat down, poured both of us a drink, and started writing down some of my favorite memories.
The first one might be both the funniest and the grossest.
We were at a seafood restaurant—I think it was in New Jersey. Joey was about five years old. You ordered oysters as an appetizer. I wasn’t nearly brave enough to try one, but Joey said he wanted to. You showed him exactly how to eat it. He slurped it down… then about a second later shook his head and spit it right back into your hand. Without missing a beat, you looked at him, laughed, and slurped it down yourself. That memory has lived rent-free in my head ever since. I was 17 years old then, and mentally I don’t think I’ve ever made it past 10. Some of us never really grow up.
Another memory I’ll always treasure is the 2004 World Series—Game 4 at Fenway Park. For most people, it’s remembered as the year the Red Sox broke the Curse of the Bambino. For me, the memory starts long before the first pitch. It starts with the way you always put your family first. That’s a lesson I’ve had to learn the hard way, but one you’ve unknowingly taught me for years.
I also loved watching you and Nick bond over New England sports. Whether it was talking Red Sox baseball, Patriots football, draft picks, or statistics, the conversations never seemed to end. In fact, they’re the reason those teams are still my teams today. Every Sunday night I can still picture Auntie trying to convince Nick to go to bed around 8:30, while he insisted on staying up to watch the fourth quarter. That little negotiation became part of the tradition.
I’ll never forget the spontaneous trip to Atlantic City either. The ocean water was surprisingly warm, the pizza on the boardwalk was incredible, and somehow the entire trip felt like an adventure that only our family could pull off.
I also remember when Katherine would come home from college. She’d tell story after story, and you’d simply sit there listening, laughing, and encouraging her without judgment or trying to fix everything. Meanwhile, Auntie was doing her best not to worry. That balance between the two of you was something special. Your ability to stay positive, supportive, and fun despite everything life threw your way made you one of the most important people in my life.
As I finish this drink, I just want to say thank you.
Thank you for every lesson, every laugh, every conversation, and every memory. You helped shape the man I became, and I know I’m a better person because of you. Your legacy will live on through the stories we tell, the lessons you taught us, and the love you gave so freely.
You will never be forgotten.
God bless you, Uncle Chris.
