John W. Campbell

Brewer—John W. Campbell, 99, husband of the late Virginia (Jacobs) Campbell, passed away May 7, 2017 at the Bangor Veterans Home. He was born April 17, 1918 in Brewer, the son of Joseph E. and Beulah (Leland) Campbell. John attended Brewer schools and married his wife of 73 years in 1943 in North Carolina while in basic training for the Army. They ultimately made their home in Brewer. John was an Army veteran of WWII having served in eastern and central Europe. His long work history ended when he retired from Grant's Dairy in his mid 60's. John could never be summarized in a sentence or two. However, his work ethic, family focus, and love of life is best reflected in his children and friendships who benefited from his simple, pragmatic lifestyle.

John is predeceased by his wife, Virginia (Jacobs) Campbell and his daughter, Andrea Corr. He is the last of the 11 children born to Joseph and Beulah Campbell and predeceased by his siblings, Robert, Joseph, Maurice, George, Irwin and Martin Campbell, Elizabeth Moore, Eileen Jensen, Erma Flanagan and Catherine Sproul. Surviving are his daughter, Susan Benner and husband, Stephen Benner of Yucaipa, CA and Beech Hill Pond, ME; a son, Michael Campbell and wife, Marsha of Fontana, CA; six grandchildren, Krista, Christopher, Tracy, Heidi, Nikki, and Ariel; three great-grandchildren; brother-in- law, Stanley and wife Gloria, of Brewer, and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM, Friday, May 12, 2017, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Joseph Church, 531 North Main St., Brewer. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer. The family invites those attending to a reception following the burial at the church center. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lafayette Family Cancer Center, c/o EMHS Foundation, P.O. Box 931, Bangor, ME 04402- 0931.
