Obituary of Piero Brovarone

Piero Brovarone, 90, of Bangor, ME born August 25,1933 in Torino, Italy, passed away in Bangor, ME on September 19, 2023.

Piero grew up in Torino, Italy and immigrated to the United States in 1961. He became an American citizen in 1973. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Physics in 1965. He was the Manager of Satellite Tracking and Data Acquisition Department with the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory of Cambridge, MA. He also obtained his MBA from Thomas College in 1995. He taught business, math and Italian for many years throughout Maine including Beal College, UMO and Mid State College.

He was an accomplished self-taught jazz guitarist and formed; or was part of many musical groups throughout Maine including the Beriozka Balalaika Orchestra in the early 1980s. Most recently, for the last 20 years he was the leader of the Piero Brovarone Trio with Sonya Hannington and Leo Jonason.

Piero is survived by his nieces, Stefania and Caterina Bucca of Italy. He will be remembered for his patience and kindness as a jazz guitar instructor by his students: Jeffery Hooke, Sean Shortall, Mike White, Ciro Olivares , Miranda Rancourt and many others over the years.

There will be a gathering in celebration of his life Thursday September 28^th  upstairs at Paddy Murphys in Bangor from 7pm-9pm.
