Stuart A. Ranney

Bangor - Stuart Allen Ranney, 75, died Nov. 26, 2015 at a Bangor hospital surrounded by his family after a period of declining health. He was born Aug. 27, 1940 in Bangor, the son of Nathan Allen Ranney and Arvilla (Cookson) Ranney.

Stuart was raised by his mother and stepfather, Anthony Verceles. He attended Bangor public schools and graduated from John Bapst High School in 1959. He served honorably in the United States Navy before working for Coca-Cola. He was also employed as a pipe fitter before an accident in 1969 rendered him a quadriplegic. Despite this physical disability, Stuart was an active member of the Bangor Elks Club and served as president of the Bangor West Little League for several years.

Surviving members of his family included two brothers and one sister, Wilbur Ranney and his wife, Judee of Ellsworth, Dennis Ranney and his wife, Sharon of Fairfield, PA and Brenda Verceles Donroe and her husband, Bill of Londonderry, NH; several nieces and nephews including Michelle (Ranney) Deyone of Bangor, Angela Burnford and Scott Donroe of Maryland, Michael Ranney of North Carolina, Dawn Debois of Bangor; and his long-time caregiver, Elizabeth Morang.

Family and friends may visit 10 to 11 AM Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015 at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor where a Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11 AM as the visitation concludes. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Etna. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his honor may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America, Donation Processing Center, 7 Mill Brook Rd, Wilton, NH 03086 or at www.pva.org or to a charity of choice.
