Obituary of Lewis L. Merchant
Lewis L. Merchant
Levant & Mims, FL – Lewis L. Merchant, 80, husband of Barbara L. (Seymour) Merchant, died Feb. 21, 2017 in Florida after a brief illness. He was born July 20, 1936 in Eastbrook, Maine the son of Leland and Madeline (Duncan) Merchant.
Lewis served with the Maine Air National Guard for more than 37 years retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant and having worked as an aircraft mechanic and crew chief. Lewis was a longtime resident of Levant and spent his winters during his retirement years in Florida with Barbara. He was a member of the Kenduskeag Lodge, #137 AF & AM, Kenduskeag and was a member of the Anah Temple Shrine. Lewis and Barbara were also communicants of St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Barbara of Levant and Florida are three children, Christine Merchant and Alan Merchant and his wife, Vickie all of Levant and Joann Ormsby and her husband, Raymond of Hermon; six grandchildren, Ashley Richardson, Paul and Derek Ormsby, Mike and Matthew Merchant and Benjamin Whitney; five great grandchildren, Callie and Kaiden Richardson, parker and Owen Ormsby and Alice Whitney; one sister, Janet Danico and her husband, Richard of Ellsworth; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents.
Family and friends may visit 5 -7 PM Friday, March 10, 2017 at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Saturday, March 11, 2017 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Ohio St., Bangor. A time of friendship and refreshments will be immediately afterward. Private burial will be at Waugh Cemetery, Levant. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Levant Fire & Rescue or to the Levant Recreation Dept., c/o Town of Levant, PO Box 220, Levant, ME 04456.
