Barbara H. Neville Bangor – Barbara (Stevens) Haws Neville, 88, of Bangor passed peacefully, Dec. 1, 2015 after a brief illness. She was born June 14, 1927 in Boston, Mass, the daughter of Elbridge F. Stevens and Olive Winters Stevens. Barbara was a 1945 graduate of Brewer High School and attended Beal Business College and took courses at EMVTI, now Eastern Maine Community College. She worked for many years as a buyer and managed the bridal department for WC Bryant & Sons, Bangor and retired after working as a bookkeeper and office manager for the American Cancer Society of Bangor. Barbara was an active duty Air Force wife for 15 years and she enjoyed many stations of duty with her husband and children throughout the US and Morocco. She was active in PTA, Girl Scouts and in later years, Bangor High Boosters. Born on Flag Day, she was always patriotic and enjoyed parades and marching bands. She was known to have played a respectable game of golf. Barbara enjoyed so very much the Labor Day family gatherings Barb and Ray hosted for many years. On many occasions, she visited her sister, TC, during her years as mayor of Pemberton Township, NJ. Barb became a regular at the Pemberton Rotary and for her volunteer hours she was made a Paul Harris Fellow. She also enjoyed all the many times shared with Sue and Larry. She was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and her son Ned’s best friend. Affectionately known as “Mum”, “Grammie”, “Gram”, “Grammie Cookies” and “Great Gram”, she loved to attend and follow her grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s school programs and athletic events. Barbara is survived by her daughters, Barbara L. Perry and her husband, Raymond of Lamoine, Sue Godsoe and her husband, Larry of Old Town and by her son, Ned Neville and Josephine Ball Bowerman of Bangor; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; her sister, Thalia C. Kay and her husband, Dr. Michael M. Kay of Irmo, SC; a special nephew, Skip Stevens of Seattle, Wash. She was predeceased by her parents and by a brother, Elbridge “Elby” F. Stevens, Jr. Barbara’s family gratefully thanks the health care providers and staff of the various Eastern Maine Medical Centers and St. Joseph Hospital for the excellent care.
