Obituary of David Enos Hamilton, Sr.

DAVID ENOS HAMILTON, SR. Dedham - David Enos Hamilton, Sr., 97, passed away on April 10, 2017 at Brewer, Maine. He was born September 2, 1919 at Green Lake, Maine, where he lived most of his long life, to Eliza Julia Ryan Hamilton and Ralph Hervey Hamilton. In 1942 he married Thelma K. Kurki and they had nine children. He served in the Army during WWII, including in Italy, France and Africa. Known as “Enos” by some and “Dave” by others, he worked long days at his excavating and construction business until age 95 and was elected the Dedham Road Commissioner for decades. He was also busy with the Dedham School Board, the volunteer fire department and Shriners. His favorite hobby was dancing, and he and Thelma could be found at the Stage Stop at every square, round and ballroom dance. Enos is survived by his wife of 74 years, Thelma Kurki Hamilton; his children, David E. Hamilton, Jr., Linda E. Stevens and husband Michael, Stephen E. Hamilton, Janet M. Schneider, Peter A. Hamilton and partner Debra Snow, Liisa V. Hamilton and partner Malcolm McKay, Matthew E. Hamilton and partner Heidi Hall, and Christopher A. Hamilton; eleven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by a son, Michael A. Hamilton. Family and friends may visit 11 AM – 1 PM Friday, April 21, 2017 at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St, Brewer where a service honoring his life will be held at 1 PM as the visitation concludes. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to Dedham/Lucerne Fire Department at 2073 Main Road, Dedham, ME 04429.
