Obituary of Mark George Brountas
BANGOR--Mark George Brountas, 55, husband for 33 years to Susan Brountas, passed away at home May 5, 2017, suddenly with family by his side. He was born Oct. 13, 1961, the son of the late George and Demetra Brountas.
Mark graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1979. After high school, he attended Beal College where he received an associate degree in business. Growing up in Bangor, he often worked with his father at Peter's Candlelighter and the Greyhound Bus station. Mark worked in sales for 26 years, most recently as Vice President of Sales for Zimmer Biomet Northeast, a position he worked incredibly hard for and was very proud to have achieved.
Mark’s greatest love was his family. He loved his wife more than words could express and his marriage meant the world to him. He adored his children Michael and Katie and was extremely proud of the people they have become. Mark thought of his son-in-law Kristian as a son and they would spend lots of time discussing the ways of the world together. His grandson Jackson was his best buddy and Mark always had a smile when they were together. Mark was a caring and compassionate man who would help anyone he came across, never expecting anything in return. He had a heart of gold, a great sense of humor, and enjoyed life to the fullest. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with his best friend, David Brooks. They had many great times together, from cycling to being the instigator of many mischievous adventures. He loved David, Stacy and the boys like they were a part of his family. When he wasn’t working out in the gym or going for 50-mile bike rides, he loved to play the drums and listen to music. It has been a big part of his life since he was a little boy. You could ask him any trivia question about music and he always knew the answer. He loved going to as many summer concerts as he could. Mark also enjoyed working on his yard, which he took great pride in. Another part of Mark’s life that he enjoyed was traveling all over the world with his family from great camping trips to far off places.
Mark is survived by his loving wife Susan of Bangor; son Michael of Old Town; daughter Katie and husband Kristian Nelson of Hermon; grandson Jackson Nelson; sister Joanne Levine of Ashland, MA; brothers Peter and Paul Brountas of Portland; many nieces and nephews; closest friends David and Stacy Brooks. He was predeceased by his parents and nephew Barry Levine.
