Joseph E. Dempsey

Orrington & Williamsport, PA – Joseph E. Dempsey, 70, husband of Patricia M. (Bowden) Dempsey, died June 6, 2017 at a Bangor hospital. He was born Dec. 29, 1946 in Scranton, PA, the son of Edward T. and Elizabeth (Myers) Dempsey.

Joe grew up in Williamsport, Pennsylvania and graduated from the former St. Joseph’s High School there and briefly attended Mansfield University. He was a US Air Force veteran having served during the Vietnam War era and worked for many years for the railroad in Williamsport and Altoona, PA. Joe was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Parish and was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He liked to hunt and fish and also liked woodworking. In later years, Joe and Pat enjoyed several  cruises with one of the most memorable being a cruise and land tour of Alaska.

Surviving in addition to his wife of Orrington are one son, Jon Dempsey of Williamsport, PA; one grandson, Alex Sherman of Waverly, NY; his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Bowden of Orrington; a sister-in-law, Anne Allen of Eugene, Ore., a brother-in-law, Edward Bowden of Orrington; cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his daughter, Jana Lynne Dempsey and by a brother, James Dempsey.

 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated10 AM Saturday, June 10, 2017 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Joseph Catholic Catholic Church, 531 No. Main St., Brewer.   Burial with military honors will be at a later date at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta. For those who wish memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements by Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer.
