Obituary of Donald A. Fitzpatrick
Bangor & Houlton—Donald "Chip" Albert Fitzpatrick, 58, passed away in Bangor July 22, 2017. He was born in Houlton Jan. 13, 1959, the son of Donald Sr. and Dorothy (Haley) Fitzpatrick.
Chip attended school in Houlton and graduated from Houlton High School, Class of 1977. Following high school, he owned and operated Chip's Superette in Houlton before becoming a salesman and candy buyer for Reid's Confectionery. In recent years, he was a chauffeur for Maine Chauffeured Service. Chip was a Boy Scout and attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Houlton in his younger years. He enjoyed camping, especially at Deering Lake and Beech Hill Pond. His love of the outdoors lead to him climbing Mt. Katahdin over 40 times and his canoe trips on the Allagash, including a very special trip with his grandson last year. He was the go-to guy for computer issues. Chip was proud of his Irish heritage and traveled to Ireland four times. He was a BIG fan of the Boston Red Sox and even more so: the New England Patriots! Chip was a regular fixture with his wife at any dinner being held at St. George Greek Church in Bangor.
He was predeceased by his Grandmother and Grandfather Haley, and Grammie and Grampie Fitz. He is survived by his parents of Houlton; loving wife Kathleen (Dwyer); daughters Jessica and husband Matt Wilson of Gray, and Shannon and husband Scott Stuart of Harpswell; grandchildren Cassidy, Ethan, Silas, Lexie, Jack, and a grandson-to-be; brothers Chris and wife Lauren, and Toby and wife Renee, all of Houlton; sister-in-law Ann Leen of Sarasota, FL; brother-in-law Fred Dwyer of Bangor; nieces and nephews Kelsey, Jimmy, Riley, Meghan, Ryan; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, special friends. Chip is also survived by his constant canine companion Tessie.
The family would like to thank the staff at Mass General Hospital in Boston for the great care they provided Chip during his illnesses. They would also like to thank the emergency room staff at St. Joseph Hospital, especially Nurse Albert, for the care and compassion they provided to Chip in his final hours. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 90 Sanford St., Bangor, ME 04401.
