Gedeon Dionne

Obituary of Gedeon Maurice Dionne

Bangor—Gedeon (Ged) M. Dionne, 86, died peacefully Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017, at Bangor Nursing and Rehab Center after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 6, 1931, in Frenchville, the son of Patrick and Agnes (Marquis) Dionne.

Ged graduated from Madawaska High School, Class of 1949 and spent summers working in the potato fields. Following graduation, he became a Train Engineer for Bangor and Aroostook Railroad, where he retired in 1992 after 43 years. He married Madeline Thibeault on Feb. 5, 1951, and they raised three children: Louise, David, and Nicole. Ged was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and a communicant of St. John's Catholic Church. He was an avid golfer, had a love for driving cars, and most enjoyed time with his children and grandchildren. Following retirement, Ged enjoyed driving cross-country to Florida, Arizona, and California to visit family and friends. Always available with a listening ear, Ged was a source of inspiration to his family and was arguably "the nicest man you've ever met," never one to say an unkind word, always one to smile with encouragement.

He was predeceased by his parents; siblings Gerard Dionne, Irma Dumas, and Muriel Thibodeau. Ged is survived by his wife Madeline of Bangor; children Louise and husband Raymond Berg, David and wife Robin Dionne, Nicole and husband Wayne Tapley; grandchildren Elena Berg Raymond and husband Jason, Jenna Tapley Johnson and husband Cory, Barrett and wife Nichole Dionne; great-grandchildren Lauryn Johnson, Phoebe Raymond, Kooper Dionne, Tyler Johnson, Jordan Johnson; siblings Noella Marquis, Lucille Daigle, Marilyn Blanchette; many nieces and nephews.
