Obituary of John W. Crane
John W. Crane, 94, passed away peacefully at his home in Bangor on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017 with his family at his side. He was born Feb. 15, 1923 in Bangor, the son of Alton B. Crane and Ina K. Crosby Crane Smith.
John was married to the love of his life, Ann R. (Golden) Crane, Mar. 21, 1947. He was a US Army veteran of WWII serving in the European Theatre then he spent nearly 30 years serving with the Air National Guard from which he retired. He also worked many years at the Bangor International Airport in the maintenance department. John enjoyed many family gatherings, hunting on his land in Monroe and fishing with his sons where ever they decided to take him. He also enjoyed the time spent with his daughter and the many visits to help care for him and cook for him.
John is survived by his wife of 70 years of Bangor; his children, John Crane and his wife, Sue of Monroe, Jim Crane of Monroe, Rick Crane of Bangor and Carol Wiswell and her husband, Pete of Orrington; twelve grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, brother, Fred Crane, sister, Lura Russell, a son, Mike Crane and by a grandson, Shane Foster. John’s family gratefully thanks the Veterans Administration and the staff of both Visiting Angels and Beacon Hospice for their excellent care.
Family and friends may visit 4 – 7 PM Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017 at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor where a service honoring his life will be held 11 AM Friday, Oct. 27, 2017. Burial with military honors will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor and a time of fellowship will be held immediately afterward.
