He was born July 4, 1917 in Hamden, CT, the son of Leonard A. and Emily (Giar) Dorman. Harold survived spinal meningitis at age 5 and being struck by lightning in 1950. He gave God credit for his survival. He served in the US Army for 39 months during WWII as a radar maintenance man. During this time he received several medals and ribbons. Harold pursued ministerial training at Calvin College and Westminster Theological Seminary. After graduation he served as an Orthodox Presbyterian pastor for 60 years in Cornville and Skowhegan from 1954 to 2014. During this time, he served as the Cornville Town Treasurer for 6 years and overseer of the poor for 13 years and as a hospital chaplain for nearly 40 years. Harold used his skills as a carpenter, electrician and plumber to help many neighbors and friends including his son, Ron, in the construction of his home. One of Harold’s special Bible verses was John 20:31 “…these are written that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you might have life through his name.”
Harold is survived by his wife and sweetheart of 67 years, Marjorie (Van Der Weele) Dorman, his son Gerald Dorman and his wife Joanne of Dover, DE, his son Ronald Dorman and his wife Araminta of Canaan, his daughter Laurel Trundy and her husband Eric of Brewer, his son Leonard Dorman and his wife Priscilla of Hermon. He is also survived by two of his eleven siblings, Emily Moody and Lillian Rawling. Harold has 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and was involved in most of their weddings and baptisms.
