Obituary of John Frederic Collins
Bangor—John (Jack) F. Collins, Jr., 81, passed away April 25, 2018, after a brief illness. He was born May 22, 1936 in Auburn to John Sr. and Lola Collins.
Jack graduated from Edward Little High School and served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1958. Using the GI Bill, he earned a B.A. and Masters Degree in Mathematics from the University of Maine. He taught high school math in New Hampshire and was a professor of math at Sweet Briar in Virginia. He returned to Maine and became the Assistant Registrar and Registrar at the University of Maine, retiring in 1993. He served on the Board of Directors for Bangor Federal Credit Union for a number of years and 22 years as the president of the Franklin Place Association. Jack enjoyed traveling, fishing, and camp at Moosehead Lake. He most enjoyed time spent with family.
He was predeceased by his parents and brothers Thomas and Timothy. Jack is survived by wife Catharine (Ramey) Collins; daughter Kathleen C. Lees and husband Rick; grandsons Jeffrey and wife Becca, Keven and wife Marley; granddaughter Andrea; step-son Michael Schoenberg and wife Sharon and son Corbin; brothers Michael and wife Elizabeth, Matthew and wife Frederica; sister Martha; sisters-in-law Donna and Sharon; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
