Obituary of Joan Louise Blethen

Brewer & Presque Isle—Joan L. (Barnes) Blethen, 67, died peacefully June 19, 2018, at St. Joseph Hospital while surrounded by her family. She was born October 8, 1950.

 

Joan graduated from Presque Isle High School. She married her best friend and partner in crime "Chip" Lloyd Blethen June 25, 1967. Joan's passions included music, sewing, and the Red Sox. Christmas was her favorite time of year. She had a long and varied career as a Board Certified Human Resources Professional. Joan had many other accomplishments in life but none of them mattered to her as much as her family. She considered this to be her greatest blessing. All who had the pleasure of knowing Joan loved her for her gracious heart and spirited soul.

 

She was predeceased by parents Lyman and Winnifred Barnes; brothers Bunky and Ron. Joan is survived by husband "Chip" Blethen; daughters Stacy Thompson and Melissa Clark and husband Kenny; grandchildren Michael Chasson and wife Erin, Allison Thompson, Elizabeth Clark, Joshua Clark; great-granddaughter Maddie Joan; mother-in-law Elizabeth Blethen; siblings-in-law Connie Leppert, Marilyn Brewer and husband Jerome, Douglas Blethen and wife Patricia, Diane Breeding and husband Flint, Matthew Blethen and wife Rebecca; many nieces and nephews; special friends Robert Thompson and Diane Smith; much loved cat Sammie. While she may be gone from this earth, her legacy lives on in the hearts and memories of her family and special friends.

 

The family would like like to thank the staff in the Critical Care Unit at St. Joseph Hospital for the excellent and compassionate care Joan received during her hospitalizations. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the "Better Breathers Club", c/o St. Joseph Hospital, PO Box 1638, Bangor, ME 04402-1638.
