Obituary of John Henry McDevitt
John "Jack" McDevitt of Millinocket ME and Florida passed away on October 24, 2018 at the age of 84. Jack was predeceased by his parents Mary and Michael McDevitt as well as his sons Christopher and Brian. He is lovingly survived by his daughters Colleen Lewis (Wil) and Melanie Anasoulis (Chris), and son Sean McDevitt (girlfriend Amy). He will also be dearly missed by his grandchildren CJ and Casey Anasoulis.
He leaves behind his sisters, Ann Delorme (Don), Mary Kirk (Robert) and Patricia Gates. Also his companion Diane Vaillancourt of Florida and his former wife Mary McDevitt. He leaves many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Jack was a Golden Gloves boxer while attending Don Bosco High School in Charlestown MA. Upon graduation he enlisted in the US Navy for four years. Using the GI Bill he obtained his Masters of Education from Bridgewater State University. Jack was a lifetime educator and was very proud of his accomplishments during his career. Jack was the Director of Guidance for many years at the Swampscott High School in MA. He enjoyed the camaraderie of his colleagues throughout his career and retirement.
Jack was fortunate enough to have been retired for almost 25 years. He spent every summer at "camp" in Millinocket. He loved his camp, sitting on his deck, listening to loons and going up the river in his boat fishing. He enjoyed watching the sunsets with family and friends. He will be forever missed by all who knew him. Our beloved Jack was one of a kind and a true character. He lived life to the fullest. We will miss his humor, his edge and of course his opinions.
The family will hold a private service.
A celebration of his life will be in the summer of 2019 in Millinocket. Notice will go out for the date and location closer to the event.
