Veazie--Edithe Alice (Borge) Sandford, 86, died January 14, 2019, at home with family after a 15-year struggle with carcinoid cancer. Edithe was born in Colombes, France on June 18, 1932, to Virgile Borge and Alice Antoine. Her childhood reflected the difficult years of the depression and the Nazi invasion of France. Edithe studied finance and law at the University of Paris and attended graduate school at Boston University. In Boston she met her future husband Thomas Sandford, and they were married at the MIT chapel on June 9, 1966. She will be remembered for her unselfish generosity enabling the wellbeing and success of others, love of family, her resourcefulness, and her sense of privacy. Edithe leaves husband Thomas; daughters Véronique Sandford and Lorraine Wheeler; son-in-law Robert Wheeler; grandson Alex; cousin Claude Barbe; nephew Phillip Dobbs and wife Angelika; niece Maryann Barr and husband Sean and grandniece Noëlle. She was predeceased by her parents and sister Josette. The family wishes to extend appreciation to the personnel of the Lafayette Family Cancer Center and its affiliates for their gracious and professional care, with special thanks to Astrid Andreescu, MD and Teresa Mooney RN. Consistent with the wishes of the deceased, there will be no services. The family will celebrate her life later in the year.
