Mary Louis, Clare and family,
We were so saddened to learn of Jim's passing. He was so many things to so many people! To Me, He was a wonderful Teacher, with a flair for the "dramatic pause" and penchant for getting the best out of even the hardest-headed students! He was a friend to my family and a person whom I very much admired. He would often challenge me to make sure I was living up to my full potential because he truly cared. That's one of the things that made him so special; that's the way Jim was with everyone! He was generous to a fault and he saw the best in people even when they didn't see it themselves. If his life goal was to leave this place better than he found it, I'd like to think that I'm one of the very small pieces of proof that he did. I will truly miss him and He was and always will be an inspiration to me and a treasure to our family. Our sincerest and deepest condolences to you and your family.

My heart felt condolences to Mary and family. Jim was the first person I met when we moved to Summer St. He came to my door encouraging me to vote. He did not ask what my political affiliations were. He just introduced himself and asked if I was planning on voting and stressed the importance of voting. We chatted a bit and discussed politics in a little more depth. I was impressed by his warmth, intelligence, humor, energy and passion for human rights. Later I realized who he was and the work that he had done. His passion for life was evident in his beautiful home he shared with Mary and their garden, lovely dog and bird feeders always full! He could have just retired and traveled or relaxed in the lovely retreat they created but instead he devoted himself to public service. I remain grateful for his work in the community. He lived an honorable life.

Dear Clare, Brian and Mary,
I was so saddened to read of Jim's passing. He was a special man and I fondly remember NICU parties at your home and him popping in to the unit at times.. always smiling. I am so thankful that he was able to be at the dedication ceremony for your Mom last year and know how much she loved him. My prayers are with you and all your family at this time.
With sincere sympathy,
Marcia Biggane

I am so aorry to learn of Mr. Professor Davitt's passing. I had many online classes with him and Mrs. Profeaaor Davitt. I was a teaching assistant for Mrs. Professor Davitt for three semesters. I always looked forward to his lectures and was eager to see the cartoon with a pun included at the end. One week I was very disappointed to not find one. I emailed him immediately to let him know. I received an apology and there was never a lecture without the cartoon in any class i was enrolled in. It is usually hard to get to know the professor in an online environment, but his knowledge and desire to share his experiences came through every week. I attended a few events with Mrs. Professor Davitt and enjoyed getting to know her face to face. I wish I had had thr same opportunity with Mr. Professor Davitt.
My condolences to the Davitt family, colleagues, and former students.

So sorry for your loss. I first met Jim Davit and Dr. Mary Kate when they first arrived is Bangor and came to St. John’s Rectory to enquire about registering at the Church and School. I was working as the secretary at St.John’s Catholic Church at that time. Very nice man.
