Obituary of Virgina J. Olsen

Virginia Jeanette ‘Ginny” Olsen passed away peacefully February 3, 2020 with her sons by her side after a sudden illness. She was born November 13, 1927 in Millinocket the daughter of Reginald and Ina (Harriman) Crawford. A woman ahead of her time, she balanced a long career with a busy family life and helping in the community. After graduating Stearns High School in 1946 she lived and worked in Boston MA. She later returned home to work in the family business and study at Shaw School of Business (Husson College) earning a business degree. Her career spanned many decades and included Viner Shoe, Byers Mfg and lastly Edwards, Faust & Smith CPA retiring in 2018. She also applied her business skills to selling Avon Products in which she participated in literally hundreds of campaigns, retiring at age 90. Not to stay idol, in 1980 she started volunteering at Eastern Maine Medical as a greeter at the ICU unit staying for 45 years. In 1950 she married Frederick E Olsen. They raised three sons in Brewer and enjoyed 62 years of marriage. Whenever they could they travelled around the US. In addition to her adventurous spirit, she is remembered as a devoted and caring daughter, wife, mother, sister and friend. She is survived by sons: Michael Olsen and Sue Monahan of Holden, Jeff and Lesa Olsen of Rye NH, ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two sisters Pat and Jim Harvey of Old Town, Diane and Paul Noddin of East Millinocket, sister-in-laws Shirley Fischer of Rochester NY, Mary Olund of Sioux City IA, JoAnn Olsen of Perry Hall MD and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son Frederick Olsen, Jr, brother Reginald Crawford Jr; sisters Ida Rodgers; Joan Monahan.
