Obituary of Barbara L. Merchant

Barbara L. Merchant, 80, wife of the late Lewis L. Merchant, died October 8, 2020 in Portland after a brief and unexpected illness. She was born in Nov. 2, 1939 in Old Town, the daughter of Alphonse D. and Edna S. (Morin) Seymour. Barbara was a 1958 graduate of Ellsworth High School and worked for more than 20 years at the lab at Eastern Maine Medical Center. She was a longtime resident of Levant and spent her winters during her retirement years in Florida with Lewis. Barbara was also a communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Surviving are two children, Christine Merchant of Levant and Joann Ormsby and her husband, Raymond of Hermon; daughter-in-law, Vickie Merchant of Levant; six grandchildren, Ashley Richardson, Paul and Derek Ormsby, Michael and Matthew Merchant and Benjamin Whitney; six great grandchildren, Callie and Kaiden Richardson, Parker, Logan and Owen Ormsby and Alice Whitney; one sister-in-law, Janet Danico and her husband, Richard of Ellsworth; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her seven siblings, her husband, Lewis Merchant in 2017 and by her son Alan Merchant in 2018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be privately celebrated at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Ohio St., Bangor. Burial will be at Waugh Cemetery, Levant. A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary's Catholic Church will be held privately due to current restrictions. Burial will be a Waugh Cemetery, Levant
