Obituary of John D. Spellman

Bangor – John D. Spellman, 68, died Dec. 17, 2020 in Portland after a brief illness. He was born Dec. 3, 1952 in Bangor, the son of John H. and Lois A. (Higgins) Spellman.

John was a 1972 graduate of Bangor High School and worked for Bangor Mental Health Institute in Bangor as the Director of Volunteers for 25 years. He also worked for Rebecca’s in downtown Bangor for many years. John took great pride in his flowers with which he decorated his deck. He was a happy individual who enjoyed being around people and dearly love his family and friends whom he will miss.

Surviving in addition to his mother, Lois of Bangor are his brother and sisters, Kathryn Vance and her husband, Peter of Rock Hill, SC, James K. Spellman of Masardis, Jacqulyn L. Williams and her husband, Peter of Bangor and Christine A. Gellerson of Bangor; several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his father, John Spellman.

 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, Bangor. Attendance will be by invitation due to state and safety restrictions but will be livestreamed on the parish website at  stpaulbangor.me/watch-mass-live.  Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor at a later date. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Greater Bangor Area Toys for Tots at https://bangor-me.toysfortots.org or to a charity of choice.
