Peter Allen, Sr.

Obituary of Peter C. Allen, Sr.

Please share a memory of Peter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Peter Charles Allen, Sr., 78, of Brewer, Maine, died unexpectedly at his home on March 12, 2021. Peter, a devoted son, was born on December 4, 1942 in Troy, NY to Clara and Ogilvie Allen. He graduated from Houlton High School in 1960. He then went on to the University of Maine at Orono where he enjoyed college life to its fullest. He had many fond memories of his time as a Lambda Chi fraternity brother.

In 1973, Peter opened an office for State Farm Insurance in Bangor. He spent over 40 years enjoying his customers, his colleagues, and his amazing office staff, including 24 year office manager extraordinaire, Megaen Austin. He also enjoyed a long friendship with fellow agents, Dick Hogan and Wayne Buzzell. His State Farm family was immensely important to him.

Peter was a great dad to his children. He could be found in the stands of every home and away game, driving to the ice rink at the crack of dawn, and taking everyone out for the weekly Sunday drive. Later, Peter’s three grandchildren were the apple of his eye and he loved spending time with them. It was often hard to tell which one was the kid in the room. He will be greatly missed by all of them.

Peter was an avid fly fisherman. He particularly enjoyed salmon fishing on the Penobscot River when he wasn’t driving to Kokadjo with Wayne chasing down some brookies. When not fishing, he was following every Boston sports team and enjoyed watching the games. He could also be found escaping to the cool coast of Bar Harbor to avoid the sweltering heat and humidity of summer.

Peter was predeceased by his parents, Clara and Ogilvie, and his two brothers, George and Robert. He is survived by his daughter Suzanne Allen Rugh and her husband Aaron of Chebeague Island, ME, their son Sumner and daughter Elisabeth; son Peter Allen, Jr. and his partner Idalia of Boylston, MA, their daughter Giada; sister Barbara Lucas and her husband Robert of Otis, their children Judy, Jon and Jeffrey, as well as numerous other nieces and nephews, to whom he was known as the fun “Unc.” Peter is also fondly remembered by his two sisters-in-law, Gloria and Kay.

After a long year of strictly adhering to COVID-19 protocols, Peter was very excited to have recently received his second vaccine and with great excitement was looking forward to gathering with family and friends again. A private celebration of Peter’s life will be held at a later date. Arrangements trusted to Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, Bangor and Brewer.
