Obituary of Robert Francis Ewing
Holden--After a life well lived and a strong fight with Alzheimer’s, Robert Francis Ewing III, passed peacefully on March 27, 2021, in Bangor.
Bob’s quick wit, combined with his kindness, always left everyone with a smile on their face and in their heart. Spending most of his school years in Erie, PA., Bob attended Cathedral Preparatory High School. Upon graduation, Bob joined the Army and later served in the Coast Guard. With his infectious zest for life, Bob cared for his families in so many ways: building houses, a repair specialist for IBM and Kodak, an auto mechanic at Cowan’s Garage, Wildlife Specialist with USDA Wildlife Services and finally weaving L.L. Bean pack baskets. Bob loved the forests, our green earth and the simplicity of nature. Camping, hunting, fishing, trapping and backpacking on Maine’s Appalachian Trail brought him great joy. Sharing his love of animals and the chores of the barn with the grandchildren were on the top of his list during his retirement.
Bob was predeceased by father Robert Francis Ewing Jr. and beloved mother Rosemarie Jones Ewing. Bob is survived by his first wife of 29 years, and mother of his beloved sons, Gladys Woodward Ewing; sons Matthew Ewing and wife Marie, Joshua Ewing and wife Tammy; devoted second wife of 28 years Julienne DeLaite Ewing; Julie’s loving children Nathaniel Waring and wife Shyla, Alexandra McDonald and husband Bernard; special adopted son, Sergeant ‘Kevin’ Tillman; grandson Zach Ewing; granddaughters Halie Harris, Kayla Trask, Darby Pescitelli, Madeline and Molly Waring, and Piper McDonald; five loving siblings Kathy Hagedorn, Veronica Harrison, Elaine Brady, Jayne Simon and husband Steve, and Brian Ewing; brother-in-law Joseph DeLaite and wife Diane; special aunt Sara Bradford; many nieces and nephews.
