Obituary of Donald Charles Gaudet

Please share a memory of Donald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Brewer--Donald C. “Ducky” Gaudet, Sr., died at his home on June 1, 2021, just 16 days before his 83rd birthday.  He was born in Brewer to Frank M. and Yvonne (Rossignol) Gaudet.

He attended Abraham Lincoln and St. John’s Elementary Schools, Garland Street Junior High School and graduated from John Bapst High School in 1957.  He briefly attended Husson College.   He worked at John J. Nissen Baking Corporation for 37 years until they closed in 1994, at which time he retired.  Following his retirement, he was employed for two years by J. J. Newberry in Brewer and was later self employed refinishing antique trunks.  He enjoyed traveling in his camper with his wife of 52 years and was proud to say he had visited 40 of the 50 states and all of the Canadian provinces except the Northwest Territories, Labrador and Newfoundland.  He lived most of his life in Bangor, but moved to Brewer in 2006.

He is survived by his wife Susan (Johnson) Gaudet of Brewer; son Donald C. Gaudet, Jr. and wife Kristen Stevens of Portland; grandchildren Caroline Gaudet of Portland and fiance, Anthony Benson of Windham, and Ava Gaudet of Portland; nieces and nephews; special cousins Joyce and Earlene Leveille of Orono; sister-in-law Patricia Johnson of Middleboro, MA, her children, John R. Johnson, Jr and wife Kelly and Michele Bass and husband Brian, as well as Patricia’s grandchildren, Tabitha and Emily Johnson and Zachary and Jordan Bass all of Plymouth, MA . He was predeceased by his parents; brother Francis J. Gaudet; niece Ellen Holmes; very special brother-in-law John R. Johnson, Sr., whose death was the same day as his.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Greater New England Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 101A First Avenue, Waltham, MA 02451. He chose this charity in remembrance of his long time neighbor, Mary Hale.

The family expresses heartfelt thanks to Miles, Cindy, Caroline and all the caring staff of St. Joseph’s Home Health and Hospice; Lesa Bennett and Kristine Kirkbride of Silver Lining Home Health Care; Marlene Walker of Total Care Solutions; Dr. David Rawcliffe, D O,  and, of course, our dear Laurie and John Jewell for their love and support.
