Obituary of Cynthia Ann Gough
HANCOCK - Cynthia Ann Gough, 77, went home to be with the Lord on October 1, 2022. She was born on March 12, 1945 in Bangor, daughter of Robert Linden and Beatrice Ellen (Mayo) Phillips. Cindy was a dedicated Christ follower who graduated from Zion Bible Institute. In 1966, she married Pastor “Buddy” Gough and they partnered in ministry. Together they pioneered the Newport Church of God beginning in 1995 until Buddy’s death on July 5, 2019.
Cindy was a woman of faith, prayer and service. She lived her life by the principles of God’s Word. She loved to serve by cleaning and organizing. You would find her washing dishes after most events. Every summer she was able, she cleaned at Whited Bible Camp. Throughout the years, she taught Sunday School, led Missionettes, and supported missionaries, often hosting them in her home. Cindy played the piano and sang in church, she used this talent to lead worship at the Newport Church of God. She also loved to play the accordion which she learned in the orchestra at Pentecostal Assembly as a teenager. Throughout the years, she played and sang with her daughters, and then with her grandchildren at churches and nursing homes. She helped her friend Brenda Cross at Compass Point Christian Academy and Daycare. In 2019, Cindy ventured to Africa with childhood friend, Rev. Meredith Giles, to visit Mt. Moriah Children’s Home where she assisted with laundry and dishes.
Her legacy continues through her daughters and their families. Bethshan and her husband LCDR James McLeod, of Concord, VA and Naomi and her husband Joseph “Bob” Treadwell of Hancock, ME; eleven grandchildren Merrianne and husband 2nd Lt. Micah Nissly, Matthew and wife Amber McLeod, Sgt. Micah McLeod, Mark and wife Casey McLeod, Malachi McLeod, Michael McLeod, Moriah and husband Jared Wagner, Marissa McLeod, Brian Treadwell, Rebekah and husband Kevin Qu, Katherine and husband Kyler Guay; four great-grandchildren Ariella Nissly, Calum and Oliver McLeod, Hannah Qu; brothers Rob and wife Elena Phillips, Steve and wife Darlene Phillips, sister Jenny and husband John Mills. Cindy loved all her nieces and nephews, she shared a special bond with Erin Wilder, Emily Hersom, Ryan Mills and Douglas York. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, sister Francis and husband Walter York and foster brother Larry Taylor.
A service to honor Cindy’s life will be held at 3pm on Monday, October 10, 2022, at Glad Tidings Church at 1033 Broadway, Bangor. Visiting Hour at 2pm. Reception will follow service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Moriah Children’s Home 262 Rt 9W, Glenmont, NY 12077 or Providence Veterans Farm (www.providencefarm.org).
