Obituary of Lois Elaine Harmon

Please share a memory of Lois to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

BREWER—Lois E. Harmon, 91, beloved wife of Charles C. Harmon, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 20, 2023. She was born in Brewer, the daughter of Irene Burnett Elliott and Hugh Elliot.

Lois had a childhood filled with many wonderful times with cousins and grandparents. As an only child, these times meant everything to Lois. She inherited her love for cooking and square dancing from her parents, and she passed it on to her family. She graduated from Brewer High School and worked in local businesses. In January 1951, the best love story of all time began when Lois met the love of her life, Charlie. Lois loved their times at Lucerne Lake with family and friends. She was active in politics, working in various local and state political campaigns, and she volunteered at both St. Joseph's Hospital in Bangor and Indian River Memorial Hospital in Vero Beach, FL, for many years.

After years living a full life in Brewer, working and raising their family, Charlie and Lois moved to Florida upon his retirement. They settled in Garden Grove in Vero Beach. They enjoyed 20 years of great times with friends, bridge groups, cruises and many travel adventures. They returned to Maine in 2011 and moved to Chester. As expected, Charlie and Lois became part of that community. They moved to Ellen Leach in 2019 and were so fortunate to live and reestablish many friendships from their earlier years.

She was predeceased by grandson Jamie Whitney.  She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Charles of Brewer; daughters, Deborah Whitney and husband John of Chester, ME, Linda Jacobson and husband Michael of Falmouth, ME; son Reginald Harmon and Katie, of Tallahassee, FL; grandsons Andrew Emerson and wife Sammi of Upland, CA, Robert Whitney and wife Tifany of Brewer, ME; granddaughters Laura Skidmore and husband Nick of Chester, ME, Taryn Griffin and husband John Ford of Sarasota, FL, Lauren Grimsley and husband Chris of Bradenton, FL, Nicole Jacobson of Portland, ME, Sara Jacobson of Westbrook, ME; great-grandchildren TJ Whitney, Katie Whitney, Emily Whitney, Drew Skidmore, Bree Skidmore, Zane Skidmore, John Ford Griffin, Cash Griffin, and Knox Grimsley; sister-in-law Gloria Durgin.

Charlie and family want to express sincere appreciation to the incredible staff at Ellen Leach, St. Joseph Hospital and their hospice services, and later, CHCS services in Chester. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Lois may be sent to the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital in Portland, ME, or to the Greater Lincoln Christian Academy in Lincoln, ME.
