Obituary of Christopher E. Thompson
Christopher E. Thompson, 58, husband of Debbie J. Thompson, died unexpectedly March 17, 2023. He was born Dec. 8, 1964 in Hartford, Conn, the son of Everett and Mary (Bell) Thompson.
Chris grew up and attended school in Connecticut and Maine and served 6 years active duty with the US Air Force before joining the Maine Air National Guard. After serving an additional 32 years in the Maine Air National Guard he retired as a Master Sergeant. Chris’s extensive career holds many accomplishments including, but not limited to, the repair and maintenance of aircraft such as the B-52, the B1-B, and the KC135; 25 deployments to locales such as France, Qatar, Germany, Turkey, Italy, Norway, Greece, and England; the training of 73 airmen for various deployments across the globe; the maintenance of the Guidance and Control career field education and training plan; and generously volunteered as a First Aid lead instructor. Chris was awarded the distinguishment of outstanding service to the United States and was recognized for his extensive aircraft knowledge, unwavering commitment, and relentless practicality during times of extreme stress and expectation and was noted to have contributed greatly to the success of the Maine Air National Guard.
Chris enjoyed hunting, fishing, competitive shooting and was a firearms enthusiast. He especially enjoyed bird hunting and fly fishing with the company of his close friends that often referred to him as a life mentor.
Surviving in addition to his wife of Carmel are two children, Joseph Federico and his wife, Denise of Glenburn and Todd Federico and his wife, Jennifer also of Glenburn; five grandchildren, Joseph’s three sons, Jesse Federico, Benjamin Long, Curtis Gregory; and Todd’s two sons, Bowen and Cooper Federico; his in-laws, Larry Foley and his wife, Debbie of Edinburgh and Gail Dorr and her husband, Frank of New Gloucester; nieces and nephews. In addition to his family he will be dearly missed by his hunting comrades Tim, John, Art, Jim Jr and Jim Sr.
Family and friends may visit 5 – 7 PM Thursday, March 30, 2023 at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor where a service honoring his life will be held at 7 PM with military honors as the visitation concludes.
