Obituary of Matthew Steven Sforza

Hermon – Matthew S. Sforza, 22, died unexpectedly on Sunday, March 19, 2023 in Hermon as the result of an automobile accident. Matthew, his name meaning “a gift from God” was born August 14, 2000 in Waterbury, Connecticut, the son of Scott A. and Darlene L. (Hanley) Sforza.

Matt was a 2018 graduate of Hermon High School and was also a 2022 graduate of the University of Maine, Orono. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business while working full time for Lakeside Landscaping as a crew supervisor and maintaining dean’s list grades. Matt was a hard worker but enjoyed many pastimes including basketball, golf and fishing.

Surviving in addition to his loving parents of Hermon, Scott and Darlene, are his paternal grandparents, John “Jack” and Sandra “Lee” Sforza of Port Orange, FL; aunts and uncles, Richard Maynard of Florida, William VanCleave of California, Carol Guimond and her husband, Bruce of Stockton Springs, Michael, Mark and John Sforza all of Connecticut; many special cousins from the Hanley, Sforza and Guimond family. He was recently predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Donald and Ann Hanley.

A service honoring and celebrating Matthew’s life will be held 3 PM Saturday, March 25, 2023 at the Twin City Baptist Church, 559 North Main St., Brewer where a reception time will be immediately afterward.
