Obituary of Robert G. Gilmore
Robert George Gilmore passed away at his home in Brewer on Friday, March 24, 2023. He was born on January 15, 1940, the son of George and Alice Gilmore.
He was raised in Orono and following high school, he traveled as a construction welder. He served 6 years with the Maine Army National Guard from 1962 to 1968 until returning to settle in Brewer with his wife, Patricia, to raise their family. Robert went on to devote the rest of his career as the maintenance foreman at the paper mill in Bucksport until his retirement. He was a resolute father to his children. Whether he was coaching little league baseball, driving to 4:30 am hockey practices, or sharing his love for hunting, fishing and the outdoors, he was always there. Many of his best memories were a result of the seasons spent at hunting camp with his friends and sister Betty, and these stories have been shared repeatedly over the years and will continue to be recounted for years to come. Robert loved his grandchildren, and all the summers spent with their Pappy at his pool, the cottage, and the annual Easter egg hunts will be cherished memories.
Robert was predeceased by his wife Patricia (Biggane) Gilmore. He will be remembered by his son Jim Gilmore of Brewer; son Rob Gilmore and wife Alicia of Holden; daughter Alicia Hunter and husband Joe of Damariscotta; his grandchildren Kelsey, Emily, James, Vincent, Olivia, Oliver, London, Finnegan, Charlotte, and Christopher; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Gordon True of Bangor and sister-in-law Marcia Biggane of Bangor. He will also be lovingly remembered by his sister and best friend, Betty McTigue of Bangor.
