Raymond Cowperthwaite Obituary

Raymond L. Cowperthwaite, 54, died unexpectedly April 30, 2024 in Ellsworth. He was born Nov. 17, 1969, the son of Lewis S, Sr. and Merrilene M. (Roberts) Johnson.

Graduate of Sumner Memorial High School and worked as a mechanic for many years, most recently working for Midas in Ellsworth.  Raymond had a wealth of abilities, from being a car mechanic, electrician, plumber, and all around master of whatever he set his mind to do.

Raymond was a faithful, loving, and caring husband. He was loving brother, son, uncle, and friend.  He was a generous, giving soul who was always quick to assist in anything that was asked of him.  He never met a stranger, it was always instant friendship.  His love for animals was strong.  He loved his dogs.  Raymond and Yonglong enjoyed vacations together and he loved food.  Yonglong introduced him to many varieties of Asian cuisine.  They enjoyed the outdoors and taking quiet times watching movies together. He will be greatly missed and a huge void has been left in the hearts of us who knew him.

Surviving are his spouse, Yonglong “Matthew” Xiao of Cherryfield and Los Angeles, CA; three brothers, Gene Cowperthwaite and his wife, Michelle of Harrington, Lewis Johnson and his wife, Beth of Brewer and Merrill Johnson and his wife, Debbie of Cherryfield; several nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and by a sister, Effie Moulton.
