Aunt Mary was the last surviving member of her generation on that side of my family. She died exactly 28 years to the day after her next oldest sister, my own mother, died in 1996.
I spent several summers living in Bristol, ME with Aunt Mary, Uncle Nat, and cousins Ted, Alice, and Margaret. Those were joyous days of play, chores, and worship, as well as camping under brilliant stars deep in the Maine forest. Memories for a lifetime.
I am so thankful that I was able to visit with Mary in person again, along with many others of my family, on the occasion of her 90th birthday. Also the fact that she and I kept in close touch by email and phone until just before her death. This was her initiative, as well as the fact that she faithfully held me up to the Lord in prayer until the end of her life.
I mourn her loss, with my condolences to her immediate family, but celebrate her Homecoming after a long and fruitful life. She will always be close in my heart.
