Obituary of Lawrence A. Rolnick
Lawrence Alan Rolnick passed away quietly, June 17, 2024 surrounded by his family after a chronic illness. Larry was born in Bangor on July 20, 1950 to Henrietta (Helicher) and Isadore ‘Eddie’ Rolnick.
Larry was a 1968 graduate of Bangor High school and later graduated from Eastern Maine Vocational Technical Institute with a degree in Automotive Technology. After graduation he began a long career at Darlings auto, holding a multitude of different positions over almost 50 years of employment. He served his country as a long time member of the national guard.
Larry loved photography and enjoyed capturing the beautiful scenery in Maine as well as creating special wedding memories for many couples. He taught photography through Adult Ed and was a member of the Bangor Photography Club. He loved taking long car rides with Marilyn throughout the state, often stopping to take pictures of lighthouses, sunsets and odd items they would see out and about. He was a fan of James Bond movies but never declared who his favorite portrayer was. When he was younger he enjoyed camping in their pop-up and watching wrestling with Doug. In spring and summer particularly he took delight in being outdoors: preparing the flower beds for Marilyn, tending the vegetable garden especially the cherry tomatoes, building whirligigs to decorate the lawns, keeping the bird feeders ready for several varieties of birds that he would watch, cooking on the grill and puttering in the garage. He was a regular at Bagel Central for many years and seemed to be known by many people in town, just as his father was. He took particular interest in historical pictures of Bangor and the changes in the layout of the town over the years.
Larry is survived by his wife Marilyn Emerson Rolnick, his son Douglass Rolnick and his wife Shea Rolnick of Winterport, a grandchild Zaria and a sister Eleanor Rolnick and her husband Ben Caron of Biddeford, two nephews, a great nephew and multiple cousins. He is predeceased by both parents, a sister, Reva Rolnick and an infant brother, Bruce Rolnick. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, unexpected comebacks and making people smile when he would unexpectedly don a red nose.
