Obituary of Mary Ellen McKenney
Mary Ellen McKenney, daughter of Vaughn and Lena McKenney, passed away on June 17, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bangor after an extended illness. Mary was born at Community General Hospital in Fort Fairfield on July 16, 1947 and attended schools in Fort Fairfield, graduating from Fort Fairfield High School in 1965. Mary attended Eastern Maine General Hospital School of Nursing and graduated as an RN in 1968 and worked at Community General Hospital in Fort Fairfield until 1969. Following this, Mary went to work at Eastern Maine General Hospital in Bangor as Manager of Respiratory Therapy and subsequently became manager of ICU at EMMC until her retirement in 2011.
Mary was predeceased by her parents and is survived by her brother Jim and sister-in-law Carolyn McKenney. In addition Mary is survived by nieces Linda and Kristena McKenney as well as a great niece Kayden and great nephew Sawyer as well as life long friend Annie Dyer. Mary was fortunate to have many great friends and neighbors who assisted her in the past few years, among them Pam, Lois, Brenda, Diane, Nikki, George, Paul, and many others as well as Heather Gilreath who have been a tremendous help to her in recent years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Monday, June 24, 2024 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Teresa's Catholic Church, South Main St., Brewer. Family and friends may visit 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer immediately prior to the funeral Mass. Burial will be at St. Denis Catholic Cemetery in Fort Fairfield at 3 PM following the Mass. Donations can be made to the local animal shelter or a charity of one’s choice. Lastly, Mary is unquestionably celebrating with her Celtics now the NBA champions.
