Obituary of Elizabeth L. Dow
Levant and Bangor- Elizabeth L. Betty (Mullen) Dow, 90, wife of the late Alfred Dow, passed peacefully surrounded by family on August 17, 2024. Betty was born November 22, 1933 in Mars Hill to Guy E. and Rhoda (Pryor) Mullen.
Betty attended Higgins Classical Institute and was a 1953 graduate of Bangor High School. Betty also met and later married Alfred in November 1953, and together they built their family home in Levant. Betty and Alfred enjoyed gardening, square dancing, fishing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, weekend and holiday cookouts with family and friends and traveling.
Betty worked for New England Telephone/Nynex for 35 years, retiring in 1990. Upon retirement, Betty and Alfred spent their winters in Zephyrhills, FL. Betty was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Bangor Senior Center. Betty was a longtime member of the South Levant Baptist Church and later attended Cornerstone Baptist Church in Exeter. After Alfred’s passing, Betty spent her winter months in Winterhaven, FL.
Surviving are her brother, Gary Mullen and his wife Ethel of Levant, sister, Leota Cronkhite of Winterhaven, FL, sister-in-law, Julie Mullen of Scarborough, very special family friends, Jody Hurd of Hermon and John Foley of Carthage, NY, and several nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased by her husband of 52 years Alfred, their son, Terry and two brothers, Robert and Richard Mullen. The family wishes to thank the entire staff of Ross Manor in Bangor for providing exceptional care, comfort and love to Betty during her last few years.
A private burial will take place at a later date at Waugh Cemetery, Levant. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Levant Fire and Rescue or to a charity of one’s choice. Messages and memories may be shared with Betty’s family on the tribute wall of kileyandfoley.com.
