Obituary of Helen L. McCafferty

Helen L. McCafferty Orono & Mattawamkeag – Helen L. McCafferty, 85, wife of the late Stanley F. McCafferty, died June 18, 2016 at her home at Dirigo Pines in Orono. She was born Feb. 28, 1931 in Brownville Jct, the daughter of William and Helen (Lessard) Kirby. Helen worked as a librarian in Mattawamkeag for both the town and for the Carl Troutt School and she served intermittently as the Mattawamkeag Town Clerk for several years. Helen was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society. She was a talented artist especially enjoying painting, woodcrafts and sewing and would take on any project from television repair to auto body work. During their retirement years, Stanley and Helen travelled extensively residing for a time in Florida and Arizona. Surviving are three children, Linda Pine and her husband, Allan of Titusville, FL, Mark McCafferty and his wife, Gail of Bangor and Karen Thibodeau and her husband, Randy of Old Town; five grandchildren, Daniel Pine of Vermont, Kristy Palermo of Florida, Kerri McCafferty of Waterville, Chad McCafferty of Bangor and Katie Thibodeau of Portland; two great grandchildren, Marcus Palermo and Cayden McCafferty; five sisters, Claire Michaud and Doris Kirby both of Auburn, Joan Annette Kirby of Randolph; Carmen Morris and her husband, Ed of Huntington Beach, CA, Theresa Dyer and Brian Mitchell of Pittsfield; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, by one sister, Audrey Ferguson and by two brothers, Maurice and Patrick Kirby. Helen’s family gratefully thanks the staff of Dirigo Pines, Hospice of Eastern Maine and the Maine Veterans Home for their excellent care. A chapel service and burial will be held 12 PM Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta.
