Obituary of Louis RH McLaughlin
Louis Reid Howard McLaughlin, passed Sept. 14, 2024 at his home in Eddington. He was born in Limestone Maine on August 24, 1931 the son of George H. and Beulah (Curry) McLaughlin.
R.H. was a graduate of the University of Maine at Orono with a two year degree in Agriculture. He farmed for two years with his father in Limestone before joining the US Army in 1953. He was stationed in Germany as a Signal Corp Operator. After getting out of the service, he married the love of his life and former classmate, Amy Lorraine Morris in November 1955.
R.H. worked at the Tank Farm Pumping Station at Loring Air Force Base before purchasing a farm in Fort Fairfield in 1961. He farmed seed potatoes and beef cattle until 1981 when he retired from farming due health problems. R.H. was a member of Aroostook Soil and Water Conservation. He held local, district and State Offices, a member of Farm Bureau and other farming organizations, a former member of the Limestone Jaycees and a former member of the Fort Fairfield Rotary Club.
R.H. is survived by his four children; son G. Reid of Holden and his children, Emily and partner Matt Logan, Reid Porter and wife Dominque, Katie and husband Tim Corey and Mikayla, and their mother Cynthia Porter McLaughlin; son Richard of Eliot; daughter Laura and Husband Richard Adams of Eddington and their children, Rick and wife Anna, Amy and husband Josh Kane, Ryan and partner Courtney Briggs; son Rodney and wife Vicki of Levant, their children Matt, Lauren and her partner Murphy Bradley. Sister Christina and husband William Latham of Mt. Vernon. Sister-in-laws; Kathryn Andrews of Hockessin, Delaware, Wilma Gene Parker of South Portland and Edwina Morris of Caribou. Two special Aunts; Avis Cantafio of Limestone, and Eliza Ward of Lewiston. 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
R.H. was predeceased by his parents, wife Lorraine, brother, Lloyd and wife Nancy, two sisters Camilla Lee and husband Nelson Roix and Nathalie Ann. Sister-in-law Faye Phair and brother in-law Cyrus Morris.
Friends may visit 5 – 7 pm Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024 at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State Street Brewer, Maine. Interment will be at 12 Noon Friday, October 4, 2024 at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in Limestone, Maine. Those who wish to remember R.H. in a special way, may make gifts in his name to the Maine Heart Association at heart.org/en/affiliates/maine.
