Obituary of Maureen E. Ireland
Maureen Ireland, 70, passed away peacefully December 13, 2024, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on September 23, 1954, in Bangor to Brendan and Elaine Crowe.
She was a graduate of Bangor High School, University of Maine Farmington, where she met her husband, Greg Ireland. She married Greg on June 24, 1978. After graduating Farmington, she embarked on a 36-year long teaching career in the Bangor School Department, most of which was in the same classroom at Fruit Street School, where she met some of her most treasured friends. She proudly earned her master’s degree from UMO. She was also a lifelong communicant of St. John’s Catholic Church. Maureen’s focus has always been on her family. She adored her husband and her two loving children, Erika and Gregory. The absolute joy of her life was watching with pride the adventures of her three beautiful grandchildren. She especially treasured her summers with her family at her camp at Lucerne.
Maureen was predeceased by her parents. She leaves behind her husband, Greg; her children, Erika Griffin and husband, Patrick; and Gregory Ireland II; and her grandchildren, Kate, Marin, and Brendan Griffin. She is also survived by her sister Andrea Boivin, her brother, Brendan Crowe, many treasured nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She also leaves behind her furry companion, Murphy.
Family and friends may visit 4 – 6 p.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday December 18, 2024 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, York St., Bangor. Burial and reception will be afterward. In recognition of her lifelong calling to education, her ties to Lucerne, and her granddaughter Kate’s commitment to the organization, Maureen has asked that those who wish may make contributions in her name to Camp CaPella, PO Box 552, Holden, ME 04429 or at campcapella.org.
