Obituary of Barbara Curran Davis

Barbara (Curran) Davis, age 98, wife of the late Daniel F. Davis, Jr. passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 26, 2024 at Ross Manor with her family at her side. Barbara was born in Brewer, Maine on August 24, 1926, the daughter of Daniel Thomas Curran and Stella (Barstow) Curran.

Barbara was the youngest of two brothers and two sisters. By the age of five, her family moved to Bangor and eventually to 833 Broadway where she continued to live and raise her own family. Barbara graduated from Bangor High school in 1945. Upon graduation, she worked at Rogers Jewelry Store where she learned the jewelry business. She also worked at W.C Bryant & Son for over 25 years and finally retired while working at Boyd and Noyes Jewelry Store.

Barbara was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bangor and Women’s society of the Church. She also enjoyed volunteering at “My Friends Place”. Barbara was a member and past president of the Patawa Club of Bangor. Barb and Danny were married on July 12, 1947. They were married for 44 years until Dan’s death in May of 1991. They enjoyed spending many summers at the family camp that they built together at Phillips Lake. Watching loons, feeding the hummingbirds and chipmunks, and playing a game double solitaire were a few of their favorite activities. Barb would often pull in a fish larger than Dan’s! However, they always found the time to work together to maintain the camp that they dearly loved. They made many wonderful memories with family and friends at Dan-D-View.

Barbara was a dedicated homemaker and devoted mother to Jane, Tom, and Ann, often volunteering as a room mother, cubscout leader and even as a chaperone at the “all night” graduation party at Camp Jordan. She always made our favorite homemade cake for birthdays and she was also known for her potent pickles. Barbara enjoyed being involved in the lives and activities of her children and grandchildren. Nana loved her family beyond words and her greatest joy came from spending time with them. She loved hearing from each of them whether it was from a visit, a phone call, or a card sent to her. She always remembered the birthdays of her entire family, to include her nieces and nephews, by sending them a card each year. Barbara lived simply and enjoyed many activities such as knitting, cross stitch, needle point and sewing. She spent hours looking for the right piece while doing a jigsaw puzzle. Barb loved to play cards with “the girls”, as well as bingo, and she always played to win. She also enjoyed traveling and discovering a new road with the assistance of her trusty compass mounted on her dashboard. Mom lived life full and leaves us with a legacy of love to share with our family and friends. We will always carry her memory in our hearts and she will always be our inspiration.

She is survived by her three children, Jane D. Giroux of Bangor, Tom Davis and wife Janice of Dedham and Ann E. Look and her husband Tim of Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Nicole Lagasse, Brian Giroux, Michael Davis, Casey Monnier, Kristin Fortin, Nate Achorn and Laura Jane Look; and was great nana to 16 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; along with many dearly loved cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel F. Davis, Jr; her parents, Estelle and Daniel T. Curran; her brothers, Daniel Curran and wife Martha, William Curran and wife Dorothy; her sisters, Roberta Sawyer and husband Eastman, Elizabeth Work and husband Winslow; and her son-in-law, Richard L. Giroux.

The family wishes to thank everyone at Ross Manor, as well as Gentiva Hospice for providing such special care throughout her final days. Spring interment will be at the Corinthian Cemetery, East Corinth, Maine. Those wishing to remember Barbara in a special way may make gifts in her memory to My Friends Place, 703 Essex St. Bangor, ME 04401.
