Obituary of Robert E. Millett

Robert E. Millett BREWER & BANGOR – Our brother, uncle and friend passed away on July 1, 2016 surrounded by; his loving family at the Maine Veterans Home in Bangor. He was born in Bangor, Oct 16, 1937 the second son of F. Everett and Maura T. (Kiely) Millett. Bob was raised in Brewer and attended St. Teresa’s School and John Bapst High School, Class of 1956. His faith in God and family were the two most important things in his life. He went on to attend the University of Maine, Orono and attended Husson College for a brief time. Bob entered active military service in the US Navy in 1958 serving on the USS Samuel B. Roberts and the USS Decatur touring many ports in the Mediterranean. He was honorably discharged in 1960. Bob went to work for the State St. Bank & Trust in Boston attending night classes at Northeastern University. Due to illness, Bob returned home to be with his family. He worked in retail sales and security most of his working life. Bob was very wise and intelligent and was a perfectionist. He had a very keen knowledge of history and government. In his spare time, he liked to attend family gatherings, read and watch football, especially the “Fighting Irish” of Notre Dame. He is survived by his brother, John C. Millett of Bangor, his sister, M. Mary Cormier and her husband, Raymond E. of Hampden, brother, Jerome R. and his wife, Sharon Millett of Poland Springs, a sister, Elizabeth A. MacDonald and her husband, Ernest M. of Orrington; nieces and nephews too numerous to list. He was predeceased by his parents and by a nephew, Shawn A. MacDonald. Bob’s family gratefully thanks all the doctors, nurses and staff at the Maine Veterans Home and EMMC for all their excellent care throughout his illness. Family and friends may visit 3 - 7 PM Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Thursday, July 7, 2016 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Teresa’s Catholic Church, South Main St., Brewer. Burial with military honors will be at Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor and a time of friendship and refreshments will follow in the parish center. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Maine Veterans Home Activity Fund, 44 Hogan Road, Bangor, ME 04401 or to a charity of choice.
